This page shows some of the photographs I have made whilst busily engaged in idly wandering around various gardens, parks and bushland settings over a period of 30 years of photography. Some may stand alone as good photographic compositions, others are simply there because I like them.

Please browse though these photographs at your leisure and email me with any comments or just plain chatter as you prefer. My main aim in producing these pages is to establish contact with like-minded folk from all around the world

Lillies in the garden
A pleasant image of plant life in my local Botanical Gardens taken on a cloudy day using my "retro-mood" camera, a lovely old 1953 Contax IIa rangefinder w/f1.5 50mm Zeiss Sonnar lens, superb quality, quiet and uncomplicated
A Black-eyed Susan provides plenty of punch when you need impact colour. Macro photography opens a whole new world to the observant camera enthusiast. Don't ignore it.

Pink!
I particularly like to look for the slightly out of place subjects for good contrast in both subject matter and colour. You've just gotta give it ten points for trying with neighbours like this!

Some of the great things about Botanical Gardens are that they are usually relatively easy to get to, in superb condition and provide the flora photo-hunter with an almost limitless variety of subject material. Here, we see a calm, tropical rainforest pool with all the trappings.....
Nikkormat FT2, 24mm lens, monopod, 1/30sec @ f11. (This one would have benefited from use of a polarising filter to kill the glare)

Desert at your doorstep!
.... and just a few steps around the corner, a complete change of climate/geography as well as more tempting photo possibilities. Foregrounds are always important for adding that essential feeling of depth. Cloudy days are wonderful for plantlife photography (no heavy shadows), but watch out for the glare in the sky. A warming filter like an 81a adds much needed warmth sometimes as well.

Then, a step or two away is a beautiful, formal Japanese Garden with all the precise grooming and picturesque landscaping we love to admire.
Here you should explore all the angles to get the most from the art of the gardener. Lighting is important here to add effect. I would like to go back on a misty morning!

Who can resist the sheer grunt of the colour of the magnificent Bougainvillea. This long lasting tropical flower can climb all over a large tree and make for a truly grand splash of colour in a landscape. This one was trying to take over my front verandah. You don't have to go far to get results. A look around home with fresh eyes will reveal all.

Flora doesn't have to be vibrant to be worthy of a photograph. Sometimes just an interesting tree can make all the difference. Keep your eye out all the time. I was interested by the fact that the tree was bare in full Spring.
